Brethren,Gene R. Deisz receiving his 50-year award from WM Matt Kapustianyk

We were glad to see so many brethren in attendance last Tuesday, July 14th, as the Worshipful Master presented Brother Gene Deisz with his 50-year pin and certificate. It is hard to believe that man is old enough to be a Master Mason for 50 years. The man in the dark jacket looks young, too! (just kidding Matt - you look young) "It goes by fast," said Brother Gene. "My father, Alf, was a 50-some year Mason [52 years]... and now here I am...." Congratulations to you, Brother Gene! Thank you for sharing this time with us and for bringing your lovely wife Margaret and daughter June.

DeKalb Lodge 144 will be conferring a 2nd degree at its first stated meeting in August, on Tuesday the 11th, 2015. Please come for a fellowship dinner at 6:00pm and stay for the degree at 7:00pm. The candidate will be examined at the Altar at the stated meeting on Tuesday July 28th, so don't miss that either!

The DeKalb Chapter of the Widow's Sons - the Masonic Motorcycle Association - headed by President Dean Clark, will be hosting a ride on Saturday August 1st in DeKalb. Registration will start at 12:00pm at the Masonic Temple at Fairview and S. 4th Streets, with Kick Stands Up at 1:30pm. The party starts at O'Leary's at 5pm, with live music by Hit Man Rock Band and food provided by O'Leary's. This is open to everybody, not just motorcycle riders. You can register to ride on your bike or in your car for $20 ($10 for passenger), or just show up for the party for $10. We hope to see you there. Remember, all proceeds go to benefit Masonic widows, orphans, childrens' homes, and nursing homes on behalf of DeKalb Masonic Lodge and the Knights of Tyre. If you have anything to donate to our auction, please contact Dean Clark or Rich Spahn. Other donations can be made there, or through Dean Clark. See his facebook page!

DeKalb Lodge will host the next Standard Club on Wednesday September 16th at 7pm-9pm. We just missed bringing home the traveling gavel trophy last time by a decision. I'm sure we can set a record for the most brethren from one lodge at a Standard Club if we try!

April Events

Friday Apr 3rd, 2015 4:30 pm

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a dear and valued brother, WB John H. Birkett, who passed to the Supreme Grand Lodge on March 27, 2015. He was loved and respected in the Lodge, in the Shrine, and in the community at large. RIP, John. The pillars at Lambeau just trembled.

On the positive side, we raised Brother Archie! The brethren from #144 and the 5th Northern conferred an impressive degree.

Oregon #420 will have 2- 2nd degrees at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, April 4th. Friendship #7 will then be conferring a 2nd degree at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8th in Dixon. Horicon #244 will confer a 3rd degree at 7:30 p.m. in Rochelle.

Standard Club will be held in Oregon this month, on April 15th, Tax day. Standard Club starts at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. Come help your lodge earn the travelling gavel, and learn something about the work!

Brethren, since RWB Orville Shoemaker has been named Area Coordinator for the Lodge Growth Program, let's help him show good numbers by attending lodge meetings, and bring a brother along to increase the fellowship and fun!

No foolin'!

Grand Lodge Workshop

Friday Mar 6th, 2015 9:32 am

The Grand Lodge Workshop will be held at Horicon Lodge in Rochelle on Saturday, March 28th from 9 am until noon. Please attend if you are in the line (Master or Warden) or plan to get involved with lodge finances or administration in the future. We all have different skills, and some men excel at administration. These workshops point out the highlights of what Masonic Lodge administrators need to know.

More March Events

by Rich Spahn
Wednesday Mar 4th, 2015 10:02 am

There are more events to note for the month of March:

The Illinois Masonic Academic Bowl State Tournament will be held at Bloomington High School on Sat., March 7th at 8:00 am.

Standard Club will be in Dixon on Wednesday, March 18th from 7-9 pm. All lodge officers are urged to attend.

Monday March 23rd - Roscoe #75 is conferring a 2nd degree at 6:30 pm.

Also on March 23rd - Rock River #612 will be holding a 1st and 2nd at Sterling at 6:00 pm. for a young man in the military. He will raised a few days later, as the slate allows.

These are great opportunities to watch and learn and maybe, participate and learn the degree work!

2nd Section of 3rd Degree School will be held in Rochelle on Saturday, March 14th at 9 am. to noon. Please come and take a part. We need men to learn new parts to help with the 3rd degrees!

The Lodge Officers School of Instruction - which counts toward the Grand Master's Award of Excellence - will be held in Mendota on Monday, March 16th at 7:00 pm. with dinner at 6:00 pm. Cars will be leaving the temple in DeKalb at about 5:00. This school of instruction with have brothers who know the work and will demonstrate under Grand Lecturer instruction for the rest of us.

Besides our 3rd degree on March 24th at 7:00 pm., we need to schedule another 3rd degree shortly thereafter. If we learn the parts at these schools, maybe we will soon be able to do a 3rd degree on our own as we could not too many years ago. We have the men, we just need the practice!

DeKalb #144 took home the trophy again for Standard Club, tying with Horicon #244 whose Worshipful Master could not be present. Congratulations to WM Matt of DeKalb #144 – that’s now 2 months of Standard Club for which DeKalb #144 won’t get any mileage accrued towards the extra Standard Club next year. On the other hand, DeKalb #144 is one step closer to the pizza party at the end of the year!

Horicon #244 is conferring a 2nd degree tonight, Tuesday March 3rd, at 7:30 pm. They could use some help.

DeKalb #144 is conferring a 3rd degree on Tuesday March 24th at 7 pm. Everyone is requested to attend!

Horicon #244 is having a country breakfast Sunday, March 8th from 7-11 am.

Genoa Lodge #288 serves a pancake breakfast the first Sunday of every month, all you can eat pancakes for $6 from 6-10 am.

DeKalb's Official visit will be next week, Tuesday March 10th. I haven't heard of a practice scheduled, but would be happy to see one!
